Our pioneering actions, together with our work in areas such as pro bono and diversity and inclusion have made us a reference in social responsibility. However, the most important thing for us is that other law firms follow the same path. The idea is to spread these initiatives in the Brazilian legal environment.”

Social responsibility is one of the main driving forces of Mattos Filho, which has the commitment to contribute to the development of a more just, equal, and democratic society in its DNA. Directing financial and human resources investments towards this goal, Mattos Filho seeks to give back its achievements to the legal scenario throughout its course.

Since it was founded, the firm has been operating innovatively in the social area. “Our pioneering actions, together with our work in areas such as pro bono and diversity and inclusion have made us a reference in social responsibility. However, the most important thing for us is that other law firms follow the same path. The idea is to spread these initiatives in the Brazilian legal environment”, says the managing partner Roberto Quiroga.

In addition to consolidating Mattos Filho as an agent of change in society, the firm’s social DNA contributes to the training of professionals and citizens who become more active and aware.

For an assertive and comprehensive action in this sense, the firm has structured its social ecosystem based on three pillars: pro bono practice, the corporate citizenship area and Instituto Mattos Filho. The initiatives in this ecosystem are focused on the creation and support of projects that promote human rights, citizenship, diversity and inclusion, equity of opportunities and rights, broad and democratic access to justice, as well as the dissemination of legal knowledge.

All of this work is aligned with causes related to the firm’s internal policies, pro bono practice area, volunteer programs, and support for civil society organizations. These causes are rights of women, the LGBTQIAP+ community, refugees and immigrants, people with disabilities, ethnic and racial rights, as well as religious freedom.
